Tearfund is a £60 million a year international development charity. They focus on working in the community to bring lasting local change.
Tearfund app started out as a WhatsApp text service. The social media team at Tearfund (a large international development charity) set up a WhatsApp number to share updates with supporters. Supporters liked the service but it had its limitations. It was very manual and limiting in its format.
We saw huge potential. Supporters of the charity loved getting up-to-date information from the countries we worked in. With a small budget, we could give supporters a better experience, and enable them to engage with the information and stories.
Creating the app also meant we could automate some of the publishing and use PayPal to enable supporters to donate through the app, rather then have to visit the website.
